Fairbault County

Justice Center

Blue Earth, MN

Construction was completed in 2009 on a new 45,000 square foot L.E.C./Detention facility in Blue Earth, Minnesota.  Located on the edge of town near I-90, the building site is sufficient in size to accommodate planned expansion of all functions, as well as the future integration of a full service courts facility.

Inside the main lobby, access is gained to the L.E.C. on the left and to the future courts facility on the right. There, a multi-use training room accommodates numerous departmental and public functions and serves as a satellite courtroom to minimize the transfer of prisoners to the existing courthouse downtown.  To promote energy efficiency, the Fairbault County Justice Center is heated and cooled with a system of vertical geothermal loops in the adjacent prairie, connected to a hydronic heat pump system.  Rain gardens and a water retention pond work together in controlling water run-off from the site.
