Mille Lacs County Courthouse Addition
Milaca, MN
Construction was completed in 2011 on a new 40,000 square foot addition to Mille Lacs County’s historic courthouse. Designed by Steve Johnson, the building is clad with concrete masonry units of a size and color carefully selected to match the existing building. On the first floor, a public lobby connects old and new and provides a single security checkpoint for the courts facility. Beyond, offices for probation, court administration and county attorney are accessible off a central lobby, as is a law library and a hearing courtroom. The upper floor accommodates three jury courtrooms and chambers. The location of the security checkpoint is such that it can be expanded to include securing the entire complex, should that become necessary in the future.
