Aitkin Public Library

Aitkin, MN

When the city of Aitkin asked VJA to design a replacement for its historic Carnegie library, community leaders expressed the desire for a design that would evoke some of the classical elements of the original building.  The new building served the community well for a number of years before enhanced programming led to the need for additional and better utilized space.  Shown on the left side of the plan, an addition, designed by VJA, includes a large meeting room and a reconfigured and expanded children’s area.  The original meeting room on the right was opened up to serve as an adult lounge.
